Seiko SNA411 Watch Review

Visual complexity

The Seiko SNA411 is visually one of the most complex watch out there. The dial is certainly very busy with more than four rulers (calculations and conversions), two times zones, alarm, date, tachymeter, and chronograph feature.

Pure analog watch

This time piece is a pure analog because there are no digital screens, which helps keep the authenticity of earlier pilot's watches. We can feel the Japanese quality when wearing this watch. The precision and level of detail is equivalent to Swiss excellence. People notice this watch and ask to have a look. It looks like a Breitling but at a fraction of the price.

Features

The chronograph can measure up to sixty minutes in 1/5-second increments. The alarm hands can be set to indicate the time in a different time zone. The crystal is a dome Hardlex which is not as scratch resistant as Sapphire, but more impact resistant (sapphire is more brittle than Hardlex).

The bidirectional rotating slide rule bezel is used for performing many types of calculations and conversions like:

Rule-of-three calculation
Square root calculation
Time, speed and distance calculations
Fuel consumption rate
Fuel quantity required
Remaining cruising time
Climbing altitude, climbing rate, climbing time

Unit conversion scale: Nautical mile, Statute mile, Kilometer, feet, US Gallons, Imperial Gallons, Kilogram, pounds, fuel pounds, oil pounds, miles per hour.

The Seiko SNA411 is definitively a unique and amazing watch. You really understand this statement once you hold it in your hands.

Golden version

The SNA414 is the golden verion of the SNA411. The SNA414 is made of stainless steel, but with a golden alloy plating on the surface. Like all platings, it wears out after a few months or years of wearing.

White and blue version

The SNA413 is the white and blue model. It is exactly the same watch as the SNA411 but with a different dial and bezel colors. It does not has a special plating like the SNA414.

Black version

This rare version has been seen around the net, on some european and asian websites. This model is called SZET003 and it seems to be an unofficial Seiko watch. Little information is available from this version, and wesites that sell it don't seem trustworthy. But a certain exclusivity surrounds this watch because not many people own one.

P1 suffix

Seiko uses P1 suffix after their model names. The SNA411 is in fact SNA411P1. The P1 suffix is not frequently used because it makes a longer model name. The 3 letters and 3 numbers are easier to remember. Adding or removing P1 on the model names of SNA411, SNA 413 and SNA414 makes no real difference.
